*Average speeds are based on the download speeds of at least 50% of customers at peak time (8pm to 10pm). Speed can be affected by a range of technical and environmental factors. The speed you receive where you live may be lower than that listed above. You can check the estimated speed to your property prior to purchasing.

About Plusnet - simple, affordable broadband

Plusnet logo

Sheffield-based Plusnet has built a solid reputation for affordable, straightforward broadband packages and strong UK-based customer service. It’s owned by BT, but run independently, so it differs quite a bit from its parent company.

What broadband packages can I get with Plusnet?

Plusnet offers a small, easy-to-understand selection of standard broadband and faster fibre optic broadband packages. We'll take a look at what they've got to offer below..

Plusnet standard broadband

Plusnet's cheapest package is Unlimited Broadband and gets you an ADSL broadband service with average download speeds of 10Mbps, as well as totally unlimited downloads.

It also includes a free router and security software to keep you safe online.

At the time of writing, Unlimited Broadband is one of the cheapest broadband packages on the market. And looks especially attractively priced when you compare it to equivalent packages from other household-name providers.

It's also worth noting that you can choose between a 12-month or 18-month contract.

In a sector where 24-month contract terms are becoming more and more common, the option of a shorter contract term is a real selling point.

Unlimited Broadband requires that you take a landline (rental is included in the price), with pay as you go calls included as standard.

Plusnet fibre optic broadband

Fast fibre optic broadband is available from Plusnet in two forms: Unlimited Fibre with average speeds of 36Mbps, and Unlimited Fibre Extra with average speeds of 66Mbps.

Both come with truly unlimited downloads, a Plusnet Hub Two router, and internet security in the form of Plusnet Safeguard.

As with Unlimited Broadband, both Plusnet fibre packages require that you take a landline and come with pay as you go calls as standard.

Plusnet home phone

All Plusnet broadband packages come with a home phone.

You get basic line rental included as standard, so you can make PAYG calls, but if you have a more talkative household you can upgrade for an extra charge.

Those upgrades include the option to add evening and weekend calls, unlimited anytime calls, or cheaper international calls.

Sadly you can't get a Plusnet phone line on its own - you'll get it bundled in with its broadband.

Plusnet TV

Unfortunately, Plusnet scrapped its TV offering some time ago. So you can no longer add a YouView box to your broadband package.

If you have Plusnet broadband and want to add TV onto that, you can still hook up a Freeview or Freesat box, sign up to Sky TV on its own, or subscribe to a NOW TV Membership.

BT Sport on Plusnet

You can get BT Sport on Plusnet. It costs an additional monthly fee - but the price makes it one of the cheapest ways to get BT Sport.

If you sign up through Plusnet, you'll be able to watch BT Sport via the app or website.

If you have Sky TV and Plusnet broadband, it costs much less to add on BT Sport than it costs if you go through BT.

Once you’re signed up to Plusnet broadband, get in touch with the provider to add BT Sport.

Plusnet Mobile

Like its broadband (and home phone, and BT Sport access, and… well, everything), Plusnet's mobile arm is cheap as chips.

You can get low-price SIM-only deals, complete with 4G and excellent coverage.

Best of all, if you're a Plusnet broadband customer, you'll get access to special mates rates on mobile plans.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get broadband-only deals with Plusnet?

No, at the time of writing Plusnet does not offer broadband without a landline.

So if you definitely don't want or need a landline, you may want to take a look its sister companies BT and EE. Both of whom offer broadband in the same areas as Plusnet and don't require you to take a landline.

You can also get broadband-only deals from Virgin Media, G. Network and TalkTalk.

Does Plusnet offer deals for existing customers?

Yes, just like BT, Sky, TalkTalk and EE, Plusnet offers existing broadband customers the same prices and packages as new customers.

Existing Plusnet customers can also save by adding extra services to their package, such as Plusnet Mobile SIMs.

How long does it take to switch to Plusnet?

Switching to Plusnet from most household-name providers, such as TalkTalk and BT, usually takes about two weeks. However, you're only likely to be without a service for half an hour.

The switching process may take a bit longer if you require any installation work. But in most cases, this isn't an issue. And you can carry out the installation yourself.

How fast are Plusnet's internet speeds?

Plusnet's broadband packages average speeds are:

  • Plusnet Unlimited broadband - 10Mbps
  • Plusnet Unlimited Fibre - 36Mbps
  • Plusnet Unlimited Fibre Extra - 66Mbps
